However, in some cases, it may be because your computer is faulty or because you installed a missing driver … resulting in a system error that cannot automatically switch to the CPU when you run an excellent software-heavy application.

Right-click Computer (This PC) => select Manage => select Device Manager => then in the right column, go to the Display adapter section as shown below.
If it shows the GPU of the machine, then you have fully installed the driver.

Here, we have two choices to make:
- Add specific applications running on GPU
- Automatically use GPU when running any software

Usually, switching between two graphics options is done automatically by the graphics driver.
Sometimes, however, you may want to specify whether an application or game should use integrated graphics or a discrete video card on your computer.
Step 1:
Open Settings and tap the System icon.
Step 2:
Click Display on the left side, and the Graphics settings link on the right.

Select Desktop app in the Add an app drop-down menu and click the Browse button.
Navigate to and select the .exe file (e.g., “mspaint.exe”) you want to add, click Add and go to step 6 below.

To assign apps to the GPU, go to Settings > System > Display, scroll down, and click the Graphics Settings link.
Click an added application (for example, “Paint 3D”) in the list where you want to set or change GPU preferences and click the Options button.
Step 6:
Select System default (default), Power saving, or High performance for the GPU option you want for this application and click Save.
- System default: Let Windows decide the best GPU for the application.
- Power saving: Requires running the application on the most energy-efficient GPU available.
- High performance: Requires running the application on the highest performance GPU available.
Automatically use GPU when running any software.
This means that in addition to the self-setup mode at your disposal when you want to use specific software to switch to using the GPU, you can also use the way to switch to using the GPU when using any software automatically.

As shown below, right-click on the desktop and choose Configure Switchable Graphics. If the right-click menu is unavailable, you can search through the Search bar available on Windows.

To check the GPU, an application or game uses open Task Manager and enable the “GPU Engine” column on the Processes tab.
Then you will know which application is using which GPU. You can see which GPU is associated with which number from the Performance tab.
